Introduction to information retrieval for PhD students

This course is designed to give you basic information about searching and retrieving sources for your papers as well as information about publishing, open access policies etc. We will also give you a short introduction to the EndNote reference management system. The course is open to all PhD students on campus Gjøvik.

We will present The NTNU University Library Web with all electronic services available to you, and show you how to search in the different subject relevant databases.

  1. Oria - The library's catalogue + much more -  how to use/search, how to order loans and copies
  2. How to search subject relevant databases (quick introduction)
  3. Scientific evaluation indicators (reviewing, referee, impact factor,  h-index)
  4. PhDOnTrack and NTNU Academic writing
  5. Open access, NTNU Open and CRISTIN  - the databases for theses/master and scientific publications from NTNU
  6. Researcher's Profile
  7. The reference harvesting tool EndNote

Please bring your own laptop.
