Mini-course in Academic Writing for PhD Students and Researchers in Medicine and Health Sciences

Develop your academic writing skills further: Learn to improve flow and readability of your text, strategies to structure sections of a scientific article, and how to cite your sources correctly.

Participants:
PhD-students and researchers/staff at The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and St. Olavs University Hospital.

Language:
This course is held in English (if all participants are Norwegian speaking, the course will be held in Norwegian).

Form:
Lectures and exercises.

Equipment:
We have laptops for the participants, but encourage you to bring your own laptop. The library has a wireless NTNU-network (Eduroam) and St Olavs-network for staff and guests.

Other information:
There will be an hour lunch break during the course so bring your own lunch (or you can use the canteen in the first floor). The library will serve free tea and coffee during the course.

What will you learn:
This course is for you who want to develop your academic writing skills further, focusing on the on the following topics:

* Getting the message across - improving the flow and readability of your text

* Good citation practice – citing sources correctly (how and when should you cite your sources)

* Tips and pointers to the different sections in a research paper – from title to conclusion
